I've spent the last few days looking over the other posts about online gaming problems with a Linksys router, but I've found no answers and they don't seem to match exactly to my issue.

I have an AMD 800 512mb RAM using DSL and running Win 98 SE. Nothing special but it runs my game just fine. The DSL is using a PPPOE connection thru a DSL modem and then into my Linksys where it is shared with my other old crappy pc. The problem is that when I play Everquest, which I do religiously, every hour or so my connection goes poop and I go link dead. If you are familiar with EQ then you know this means death if you are in the middle of a high level raid, not too mention it is so freaking annoying.

I've tried downloading some of the tweak utilities you guys have mentioned and played around with settings, but nothing seems to fix this issue. I'm almost 100% positive it's my Linksys router and someone mentioned that there is a port that I need to open and adjust an Advanced setting on the damn thing, but he had no details.

This is driving me nuts and I could really use some help here guys.

What i would reccomend doing is going in and removing all of your tcpip protocols and re adding them then restart your router and reconfig it
Make sure that thereisn't a static route going to the crappy pc.

The thing about it is that it happens regardless if the other pc is turned on. It even happens when my friend brings his pc over and puts it in the spot of the crappy one. I've actually formatted my pc, because of a different issue, and the problem remains.

I've installed the newest firmware for the router and tried various settings on it, but none of this made any difference.

It happens to your friends comp too right? If so then definetly call your dsl company and ask if there are any compatibility issues with the router or what not. Also ask if they know of any valid solutions. It could just be ****ty service.
