Hi all

I have a 512 Cable modem with NTL in the UK and a lot of the time i do thind that when i play my games on line that they lag same of the time. Is there a Tweak out there that i can use to Tweak my connection up a bit so i can try to have a bit more fun when playing. If there is i would like to know where i can get it too.
TY

2) My connection is a 512K Cabel Modem connected to the USB.

3) My IPS is NTL ( www.ntlhome.com ) and the only speed they have told me about was the 512K per sec.

4) SpeedGuide.net TCP/IP Analyzer
TCP properties for IP = xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx (inktomi1-gfd.server.ntl.com)
Browser/OS = Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 5.5; Windows 98)
Note: Read the FAQ if the above is not your IP address.

TCP options string = 020405b401010402

MTU = 1500
MTU is fully optimized for broadband.

MSS = 1460
Maximum useful data in each packet = 1460, which equals MSS.

Default Receive Window (RWIN) = 8760
RWIN Scaling (RFC1323) = 0 bits
Unscaled Receive Window = 8760
RWIN is a multiple of MSS
Other values for RWIN that might work well with your current MTU/MSS:
513920 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 8)
256960 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 4)
128480 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 2)
64240 (MSS x 44)

bandwidth * delay product:
Your RcvWindow limits you to: 350.4 kbps (43.8 KBytes/s) @ 200ms
Your RcvWindow limits you to: 140.16 kbps (17.52 KBytes/s) @ 500ms
Consider increasing your RWIN value to optimize TCP/IP for broadband.

MTU Discovery (RFC1191) = ON

Time to live left = 120 hops
TTL value is ok.

Timestamps (RFC1323) = OFF

Selective Acknowledgements (RFC2018) = ON

IP type of service field (RFC1349)= 00000000

5) I used Los Angeles to test my speed.
Download = 485
Upload= 122

6) I use Win98SE.

The best advice I can give you is connect your modem via ethernet instead of USB, USB is much slower and troublesome and will increase your latency. That being said try the following in the TCPOptimizer:

Settings tab:

select - cable modem
check - custom settings
network adapter selection - your NIC
check modify all adapters
maxmtu - 1500
TTL - 64
TCP Receive Window - 23360 or 32120
MTU Discovery - yes
Black Hole Detect - no
Selective Acks - yes
Max Dup ACKs - 2
TCP 1323 Options - uncheck both boxes*
(* if using TCP Receive Window of 65535 or higher check windows scaling)

Other Settings tab:

Max Connections per Server - 10
Max Connections per 1.0 Server - 8
Lan Browsing Speedup - optimized

Then select "Apply Changes" and reboot to take effect.

:D ;)
