ntl ambit usb modem and windows se

when i connect to say unreal tournament and ping the master server - i get to about 40 % then the response stops. If i leave UT and try internet explorer or outlook, they wont work. its as if im disconnected.

I have to reboot and then I can regain access to internet etc. BUt if I use UT or Qtracker ( a program for accessing game servers) I get the same problems.

I have also got win xp on a dual boot and there are no problems with it - however i cannot use xp for games

I have tried new usb drivers for via chipset etc but no joy - is there an updated version of winsock maybe
any help appreciated -

well... XP is basically win2000 and al my games run fine... I play UT/Quake 3 all the popular FPShooters.... but ermmm.. 98se has many "bugs" with networking... even though that was the main reason it was designed. ermmm... you live in the UK and use ntl broadband?¿ When I first got it... I was having probs with them for a few days... but sorted now :)

hope this has been a help... just try playin your games on win xp... patches are being released for games all the time... and UT works anyway... good luck.

thanks for ur help - yep no problems browsing and pinging UT on xp - but I have a voodoo5000 graphics card which is a nightmare on xp and great on win98 -lol

basically i can either have cable dropout or corrupted graphics :)


I will probably just get a new card and run everything on XP

try hooking the modem though an ethernet card instead of usb if you can.
