Another question for the experts here - - -

I finally got another computer for MY use (my wife has been using our earlier one for her on-line business) and I need to connect it to the Comcast network via a switch/router. I am considering the little Linksys BEFR41 (?) but saw something interesting in a review of the device here ont he net.

The review said that COMCAST users had to do something special to get email to work through the router - something about setting the Comcast server's name/address ????

In any case, the instructions said to PIN WWW by itself -- when I do that here the result is : www.comcastpreview.net

What the H is that? It isn't any of the servers I can find on-line and it isn't the address defined as a gateway, so what is it?

In any case, can someone who is using the Linksys on the NEW comcast please let me know what is needed to set it up?

Thanks in advance - Roy

The linky is real easy to set up. Plug it in and go. I am using comcast and had to do nothing special.... just make sure you unplug cable modem for awhile while setting up.. plug in linky first and let it power up,, then plug in cable modem...

So there was nothing special you had to do to get both computers working on Comcast - including email? Great !

We used a 16-port Linky at work on the DSL line and never had any kind of problem with it - that gives me a good feeling about using one on the home network.

SO -- does anyone know what the www.preview thing is on Comcast?

I also have Comcast as a cable provider. I purchased a Linksys router BEFSR41 and it was the EASIEST thing I have ever had to setup. I made sure everything was powered down. I connected all the cable to the modem/router/computers ... but did NOT turn anything on at this point. I started at the wall ... meaning powered up the modem first. Once it got online ... I powered up the router. Next I booted up the computers ... one at a time ... and next thing you know ... we are both surfing. So easy. This is one of the best routers and easiest setups I have ever come across.

I use Yahoo for my mail ... but my girlfriend uses Comcast. She just launched Microsoft Outlook ... configured it ... and there was her mail. Did nothing out of the ordinary to get it.
