Here's the deal. I use DSL from SBC. A rouge web page launched Outlook Express (don't use it but it's on the machine). Since no account was setup, OE tried to connect via modem. I shut the whole thing down and rebooted. Now, when trying to get streaming audio or video clips, Windows Media player reports that it can't find an internet connection. Occasionally, a web page will report the same thing but there is a dialog box with a 'try again' button and that always works. Right clicking on the link to an audio or video clip and choosing 'save as' works although sometimes I get the the no connection message but 'try again' works. I suspect some registry setting is causing this but have no clue where to look. Ordinary surfing, email, newsgroups are all ok.
Thinking the problem might be with media player, I uninstalled it, downloaded the latest version and installed that. No change. Any and all help will be greatly appreciated. (i'll name my first-born after ya).
