From reading other posts, everybody seems to be saying that i should change my linksys hub for a router, and that would give me better speeds. right now i have charter cable 512, networking 3 computers. I noticed a slow down when i went from windows m.e. to win xp, also when i enable windows firewall it blocks the other 2 computers from the net. Zonealarm does the same thing. would this router help with this problem to. thanks in advance :p

Do you have 3 IP addresses? Or are you using Internet Connection Sharing?

The windows and zonealarm firewall software stop's NetBIOS over TCP/IP to be accessed for the Network this is why you can’t see the other computers on the network.

For Windows Firewall Software go here:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=KB;EN-US;Q298804&

For Zonealarm:
Go to the Firewall option and select the Zones tab, now you need to click 'Add' and select subnet, now enter the IP address of the computer. Since you have 2 computers on the network (not including the one you are using) you will need to do this twice to see both computers on the LAN.

Once you entered both IP Addresses change the zone from Internet to Trusted, go back main of the firewall option and make sure that the Trusted Zone Security tab isn't any higher than Medium otherwise it won't work.

Hope that solves your problem.
