Ok i have charter pipeline. The main connection comes into my win2k box (with 2 nics, not the same brand) Then i want to use ICS to share the connection with a WinXP (home ed.) box. I am not using a hub or router since i only have one other machine that i want to share with. But when i run the cable from the Private lan to the xp home machine it acts like the cable is unplugged! I have tried everything...tested cables, swithced nics...settings everything. Any ideas? maybe the nic in the xp machine...any help would be great !!!!

Are you using a crossover cable between the two NICs?

Cross over cable between the two nics in my machine (win2k) ? Hmm not sure what you mean, are you talking about the cable that connects the nic to the mobo ??? <--confused :)

yep.
NIC to NIC = xover
NIC to hub/switch/most routers LAN port = straight thru (patch)
hub to hub = xover cable or patch cable in the uplink port
all has to do with the pinouts on the rj45 port

Cyberskye's right, you need a crossover cable instead of a straight patch from nic to nic.
