I finally got my 2laptops(win95, and winXP) and desktop(win2K) networked. The only thing is I want to share the internet on both laptops or atleast on the one with XP. The desktop has DSL(1meg). I tried setting the nic on the desk top to share www but I still couln't get www on the winXP laptop.

I have a 5 port hub in the desktop I have to NICs the DSL goes into the Dlink card and I have crossover cable from the linksys NIC that connects to the hubs uplink port. I them connect the two laptops to the hub using straight cables.

One more prob I can access the desktop and XP laptop back and forth just fine and the XP laptop and Win95 Laptop back and forth just fine too but I can't seem to acces the win95 laptop from the desktop and visa versa they see each other but from the win95 laptop it requires a password I don't know how to get past that and from the desktop I can send files.

I'm a network virgin, some please help me out.

For the accessing of the win95 machine to the others you need to create an account on the xp and 2k boxes that matches the one that you log onto the Win95. You also need to assign that created users rights to the files or folders that you want to share.

For sharing your Internet connection you need to setup ICS on the desktop or download a free proxy sharing program such as :

Uplink ports and crossover cable provide the same functionality. If you are using the uplink port on the hub then use a straight cable. If you are using a crossover cable between the server and the hub, then do not use the uplink port. Check the LEDs on your NICs to verify that you have a link (some hubs have a button that switches a standard port to an uplink. Some just have a separate port and diable the port next to the uplink as well)

As hoov said - you'll still need to install proxy software to share the internet, and to have the common user accounts and correct permissions to access files and printers.
