I took out my 80gig wd se with windows xp pro installed on it and replaced my old one with win 98se and am happy as hell. XP is just another version of windows ME and it sucks so bad imho. I am going to sell this piece of @#%@#% ****!!!! and get 2000 pro and would like to try linux...Steve Balmer is a dumb prick who is going to put microsoft under if his next OS is filled with this same crap.
I know a lot of people like it but i dont know why, thank god i know a lot of people who hate it too so i dont feel like an idiot posting this.
Just thought id share my disappointment in XP's lack of ability...its just WinME with more worthless crap pushed into it.

XP is the best OS out there, if you think XP sucks then you dont know what your talking about and you shouldnt be using a computer.
Win Me is horrible and the most unstable OS out there!

maybe because that is the only word that describes Windows ME is that it's horrible.
i can't see why you would hate Windows XP, give me some reasons why it sucks and maybe there is a fix for those probz.

Actually XP has nothing to do with WinME. XP is bred from Win2K...which is bred from Windows NT 4.0...it's all NT based. WinME was outsourced from MS at the last minute because they never could come up with a "home" version of Win2K....but it's still mixed like Win95 and Win98.
I loved 98se also, but love XP.
From my experience I also loved 98se but all the NT versions are much better with XP and Win2K pro being exceptional.
My dealings with ME were miserable. I had used ME then reverted back to 98se.
There are so many variables that would make someone like or dislike a particular version of OS- so everyone will definitely have their own opinions.

You don't really list any reason(s) WHY you hate XP. Maybe it's something we can help with?

I prefer plain 2K because its not all dressed up with the features for new computer users etc... thats not to say you dont know anything because you use it... its just that it was made for the average home user etc...

WOW! WinME can actually work longer than a month!? AMAZING!
I don't know too many people that use winME anymore.
Winblows ME is definitely junk! My friend and I used to exchange jokes about our "blue screen of the week" experiences with ME.
Windows XP Pro is hands down the most stable O/S available. I've never gone so long without seeing a blue screen error, even on crappy client computers. If you don't like Windows XP Pro, chances are you won't like Windows 2000 either, both O/S are based on the same NT core.

Well... I'm don't know much about computer.. yet... I'm studying it rite now... but anyway... I agree with Jake... I've been using winME for ova 6 months now.. no blue screen and it seem to be fine. I don't know about other having problems with it.. but it seem to work fine with my other comp. It also start up fast too.. about 5-10 seconds... not bad :)
Also, I left it on (online too) with out shutting it down for 2 weeks and still went fine.
By the way, to me Xp is reliable and safety (security). I've been using xp for quite a long time now... and loving it. :)

Read Carefully.
People that loved windows 98, usually like Windows 2000. The people that loved Win Me, usually like Windows XP Home.
I remember when I owned and Apple 2e, and I never had a blue screen and pac man didn't crash the whole f@*kin computer. Now that I have a flavor of Linux, and a taste for Windows 2k, I'm happy.
Windows XP does Suck IMHO. but its the latest so I had to have it... but I won't put it on my main rig nor will I network it to the other computers in my home..
I have XP Pro, and I don't like it, I only have it on one of my computers and I think it works okay. But its not the best OS out there.PERIOD.
XP starts a new era in OS's, and I like the old era. :)
XP is in dire need of a service pack as well. Too many glitches and bugs right now. BUT, I believe XP will become an OS to recon with as it grows and is serviced.

I've been using XP since it was released and haven't had it BSOD or crash yet. I leave my main system on 24/7 and can't remember the last time I had to reboot with XP.
I had tried ME for a little while but was having so many problems that I ended up switching back to 98 SE. I could never leave it on overnight without having to reboot the following morning. For the 2 months I did run it I had to re-install at least every couple of weeks because it was just too unstable.

I dont like XP Pro or Home myself as well.
I ahve tried and installed it here on my work machine and had nothing but issues, lockups, slowdowns.
Maybe because I am in a Novell/NT domain evironemnt, and MS made it so XP does not play with Novell anymore.
All I know is I have bad tastes in my mouth and refuse to install it on my home machine until I am literally forced to.
For now at home is win98se, and at work win2kpro

I have 3 machines on my network all running different OS's - WIN2k, WIN XP PRO and 98SE. All stable, all co-existing just fine. 98SE for my kids, WIN2K for me and XP in the basement on 3rd PC. I like my WIN2K box the most - NEVER crashes. Had to have XP to try. It is new so I wanted to play with it. I do like the fact that it has a HUGE driver database. Anything you throw at it, it will install. Too much crap though. I don't need 10,000 ways to view toolbars, desktops, control panel, etc... 98SE on the kiddie box because it will play any game my kids have and their HD is small.
I made the foolish mistake of trying ME too. What a piece of bloated crapware! It lasted 4 days on my PC and has never seen daylight again.
Wow, we have come a long way with OS's. From a single floppy to the eqvilent of over 700 floppies. Good thing CDROMs came a long. I'd hate to have my OS delivered on a forklift!

Yeah I agree that OS have changed quite considerably, I remember when I owned an Apple 2e, 4 color monitor white black green and red, I had 100 games or more.. and I had to use the keyboard to play them, they all loaded from a 5 1/4 floppy diskette, and I miss them days.. but I'll never go back.
I would like to buy another Apple computer but are getting pricey, ..... never thought of it till now I can talk my boss into buying one, and trade comps, because he knows how to use my computer. and the purchase is tax deductible. wow.. I'm getting good thoughts.
I just bought a P4 Intel Full Computer System, from ebay on Sunday... the recommended OS for that computer is win 95 or Win 98. Baffles me, but its getting Linux distro later. I would like to see just how fast I can make redhat on my new comp.
I sure won't have XP on it, for one reason; XP sucks bad.
I still don't see anyone lay out a detailed list WHY they hate XP. It's all of the "Well, according to my calculations, I'm getting 1.4325 more BSODs with XP than I did with Win98" variety.
The list is at MS site if you want to have a look at it.

I couldn't resist :D
I did the search too, and it came up with 100 in a list of 10 pages.

I guess if I had to pick one thing about XP that I didn't like it would have to be the new look and all the new ways to do the same crap. The first thing I did was strip it back down so that it looks like my old Win2k system. Turned off all XP features that I could, and returned everything to "classic" style. Now it looks, feels, & performs like Windows 2000 all over again.

But take a look at how many bugs are in Win2K, 98, 95, 3.1, etc.
Technet engine always gives you pages 1-10 100 hits no matter what you type in for an OS..."98 bugs", "95 bugs", etc.
Has anyone ever looked at home many security updates there are for Win98, or 95, or NT 4, or 2K? Sure XP has a few, but not nearly as many as all the earlier ones. Sure, in time they will grow, but that's the nature of it.

dang, didnt know i started this.
Let me clarify everything, but my remaining points still stand.
I started with windows 3.1, i never owned win95 but did use it a lot, i had win98, then got win98se and that was my fav, have used and love win2000pro and would like to try and get a copy, used and hated windows me to all hell, just got windows xp pro and hate it too.
When i first installed it, all seemed to go well, then me degrades started. It looks like crap to me, too newbified, so first thing i did was make it look like win 98, and all, start menu, etc...I got it the way i wanted it so that was fine.
I have already reformatted this thing and still have the same problems I had when i first posted. I have all the best drivers and tried to do some tests one at a time but still had problems. These are all problems I have never had with my 98se, random game crashes, shut down/restart jams, and a lot of integrated and backround crap that checks worthless stuff and eats ram.
I am not saying XP is bad straight up, i really was talking in terms of myself...For me this OS in inconvenient. It seems to trade stability for features. But i could be totally wrong, or it could be a simple problem i need to fix.
I am not going to post a thread on please help me fix it because i was happy with win98se, when things work properly on xp pro i notice no performance increases. And on top of all that, i have used win 98 since the midnight it came out and know it front to back. So instead of bogging you guys down with a 100 post help me fix xp thread, i am just going to put 98se back on, work perfectly and wait for the next windows to come out while continueing to be happy as a clam :D
So please don't take it as an insult, I don't like windows XP and i felt like stating my opinion to see what others felt like. Thankyou for your posts and found them to be a great read.

Not trying to step on any toes here ... but I have to disagree with you about ME. I have been running it since it came out and I have had virtually no problems to speak of. I am not saying that XP isn't a good OS ... but I do not think ME is as bad as everyone makes it out to be. I did not have any more problems along the way with ME then I did with 98. I think a lot of it has to do with how someone maintains their computer. If you just run it all the time and do not do the maintainance along the way ... I do not care what system you have ... you are gonna have problems. I am using ME now and will be upgrading to XP Professional (as soon as my copy arrives in the next day or so), but I am only doing this because I want to keep abreast of the new OS's. If ME was the only OS out right now, I would not have a problem using it.
