I have 2 comps connected through a netgear 10/100 switch, 1 using 3com 905-TX the other using 905B-TX, but I can only transfer at around 5MB/sec. I know its not a hardware bottleneck because both machines are over 1Ghz, and have high speed HDs, and both have tweaked OSes. 1 is running Win2K, other is running Win98SE, and I installed the default speed patches from this site, so what is keeping me from reaching 10MB/sec?
I'm guessing that its cuz they're using different OSes, but that shouldn't affect anything. I know that turning on full duplex won't help, because before, I was able to transfer @ 8MB/sec using 2 older comps and the same NICs, @ half duplex. So are the different OSes to blame?
