Hi,
I am helping a friend of mine to setup Wireless lan at home. He has DirectTV DSL. The DSL equipment (I cannot recall the model number right now) has only a USB output, that connects to his desktop PC. He has a laptop that he wants to connect using a 802.11b card.
We purchased Netgear MR314 cable/dsl gateway with wireless AP and a netgear 802.11b PCMCIA card. I am not sure how to connect the Acess Point to the network. The AP has 1 LAN port marked "Internet", where traditionally the CABLE/DSL modem output is supposed to be connected; and 4 other LAN ports as the router output.
The PC to which the DSL equipment's USB output is connected does have a LAN Card. I was thinking of using this LAN card as the uplink for the Netgear Wireless AP. Basically use a hub to connect the LAN card on the PC and the "Internet" port of the Wirelss AP together. Then run some proxy software on the Desktop PC. Will this setup work? Also, is there a way to convert the USB output of the DSL equipment to a LAN output, so that I can connect the Netgear MR314 "Internet" port to this LAN output, and use one of the 4 router outputs to connect the desktop PC.
Is there a better way to do this setup? Any help will be great!
Thanks,
Vivek
