Win XP Pro. Cable modem connection via Linksys router to attbi.
Cisco VPN client installed, used occasionally over the cable modem for connection to a WAN. Using netbeui for local file sharing, ip for the Internet (no file sharing). Brand new Dell Dimension 4500.
I just added a modem and dialup ppp connection to this setup. I dialup and connect to a server. After I disconnect, I no longer can connect over the cable. Ipconfig shows the same status, except for the addition of the ppp connection. Since I am disconnected, the ppp connection shows no ip address (that is, 0.0.0.0).
If I ping my dns servers, I get no connection. This suggests it isn't a dns problem, since I'm pinging an ip address. After a reboot, everything works fine. The problem occurs without ever using VPN on the cable.
I compared setup to my older machine, running all the same software and OS. Everything I can see looks the same. On the old machine I can switch back and forth between dialup and the cable, no problems.
My old machine (also XP Pro) did not have QoS on it so I uninstalled QoS from the new machine. I then uninstalled and reinstalled the vpn client to make sure that it wasn't installing or relying on QoS. I also set the QoS bandwidth to 0, though this shouldn't matter after uninstalling.
Thanks for any help.
