500mhz 192 mb Ram (Cable) Win98 SE

I Used to get 350 - 400kb/sec Download and 385kbps upload.
Now im not anywhere near it. I get 155kb/sec download and 120kbps.

TCP options string = 020405b40103030301010402

MTU = 1500
MTU is fully optimized for broadband.

MSS = 1460
Maximum useful data in each packet = 1460, which equals MSS.

Default Receive Window (RWIN) = 481800
RWIN Scaling (RFC1323) = 3 bits
Unscaled Receive Window = 60225
RWIN is a multiple of MSS
Other values for RWIN that might work well with your current MTU/MSS:
513920 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 8)
256960 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 4)
128480 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 2)
64240 (MSS x 44)

bandwidth * delay product:
Your RcvWindow limits you to: 19272 kbps (2409 KBytes/s) @ 200ms
Your RcvWindow limits you to: 7708.8 kbps (963.6 KBytes/s) @ 500ms

MTU Discovery (RFC1191) = ON

Time to live left = 50 hops
TTL value is ok.

Timestamps (RFC1323) = OFF

Selective Acknowledgements (RFC2018) = ON

IP type of service field (RFC1349)= 01011100
Precedence (priority) = 010 (immediate)
Delay = 1 (low delay)
Throughput = 1 (high throughput)
Reliability = 1 (high reliability)
Cost = 0 (normal cost)

Your tweak looks okay (play with that RWIN some though). Did you try the SG TCP/IP Optimizer?

Check out this (http://forums.speedguide.net/showthread.php?s=&postid=643301#post643301) post for some tips.

Increasing his RAM won't help his speed at all, as a matter of fact with Windows 98 it can cause problems.:)

Unfortunately I never, NEVER heard about RAM problems
in ANY win up to 512MB ;)
you can see also:
"amount of physical RAM that Windows can access to 768 MB"
in |Error Message: Insufficient Memory to Initialize Windows| (http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=KB;EN-US;q184447&)
& next |Computer May Reboot Continuously with More Than 1.5 GB of RAM| (http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=KB;EN-US;q304943&)
:) I'm asking about RAM upgrade up to 512MB.

I'm not sure what your asking Andrzej? If you are asking if increasing your RAM to 512MB with improve the performance of your pc then yes, but with Windows 98 you won't see a real difference with anymore that 384MB and going higher than that can casue problems.:)

Thank you
my personal experience is with wME in this mater
but any win RAM management will be analogical
every winOS have own optimal border probably as:
"never" swap file use status
despide to CPU, but above PII 350MHz
;) internet conections (I) & its project on screen(S) aspects
amount of physical RAM in MB above:
<32> every increase is desire ^^^^^I&S
<64> every increase is desire ^^^^^I&S
<128> every increase is desire ^^^I&S
<256> every increase is desire, can improove results ^I
<512> increase NOT desire not improove results in I&S, not worth money
<1026> increase NOT desire and is waisting of money

OK, unfortunately :) w98 ram384MB edge is not known by me.

sorry for my dely
I like my job so much that from time to time I must do something...
ad rem ;) on parrarel forum I find the solution how to upgr RAM in PC
see on plate: | dish is not so hot but good cooked & tasted | (http://forums.speedguide.net/showthread.php?threadid=78825)
so I recomend to take it all
One can read: Posted by MadDoctor on 05-23-2002 01:17 AM:
(the same ONE: Animal on location: Looks dark)
Win95 and Win98 OS
can physically address AND USE up to 4gig of memory.
The ONLY requirement to use over 512meg of memory
is that the line "maxfilecache=524288"
be included in the [VCache] section of the system.ini file,
to stop file name caching from creating problems.
....and so on....
easy close to 0.5% of RAM - acctualy we have the solution pc RAM>512MB
:)
But....... on TeakingForum my question is:
in aspect of PC: internet conections & its projection on screen
is upgrade pc RAM to 512MB
a) can significantly change quality of both?
b) is worth the money?

Your posts are kind of confusing:confused:. But the point I was trying to make was that 256-384MB is more than enough for anything you can do with 98, you can add more but you have to do some specific tweaks and you won't see any performance increase by going higher than 384MB. :) ;)
