I just had cable installed on my computer and everything is working fine but when I installed my router I can get on the internet but its worse than dial up. Im using a belkin 4-port cable/dsl gateway router under windows 2000. Any help would be much appreciated. Btw, Im a moron so simple terms and steps by steps would help greatly.

Can you compare performance between the router, and a computer connected directly to your cable modem (as in, with, and without the router).

Double check the wiring setup you have, I've seen someone cross a cable where it shouldn't be...and performance is more than halved. I have come across a Belkin router before that a store had on it's network....someone else put it in, replaced it after two days of unreliable performance (IMHO, flakey PPPoE support, but you have cable, which isn't PPPoE), wasn't impressed with it at all, Belkin makes good cables...I'll leave it at that. But still, between only two computers, and again, you have cable, not DSL with PPPoE, so it's just pure ethernet...while it's not the fastest router out there, it shouldn't be down there like dial up.

Double check those cables, try swapping them out, perhaps a bad one. Can you upgrade the firmware on the router?
