Hi im new to networking and connection sharing.

I just bought a new router and its all hooked up and working but for some reason i cant access the internet through the router.
but if i hook the modem back up to the original pc it will work fine no the net. Is there something im missing here. Oh by the way i have put the software that came with the router into the pcs. Also im hooking the Cable modem directly into the router then using the ports from router to my both computers. I just dotn want to have wasted 200 bucks on this router,cat5 cable and ethernet card for nothing. any replies with suggestions would be most appreciated.

Thank You,

Gandy

I don't have that particular router , but did you go into the router settings?? I believe their are things you need to adjust in their. If you don't know how to, look in the manual it should tell you.

Also you can check out http://www.netgear.com/customer_support2.asp
They may have some info that may help you.

If you hapoen to run ICS before you got the router. Like I did before I installed my Smc Baricade router I ran into alot of problems.
Which resulted in me formatting my drive with my os on it. But I used this as a last resort after trying to figure out the problem. I guess the Ics was messing up something.

What Os are you running?

Most likely this is a DNS issue. Call you ISP and ask them what there DNS address's are then put them in the DNS section of the router.

Gandy,

Try unplugging your cable modem power for maybe 5-10 minutes. When you plug it in it should grab the mac address from the router and you should be fine.

Right now it seems that the cable modem is looking for the MAC address of your pc but can not see it so it will not connect to the net.

By unplugging the replugging it should reregister the mac from the router and then you'll be off and sailing.
