Hi,

I'm using a cable connection and I always thought I was directly connected to the Internet. Now I got a game that requires some ports.

GameSpy Peer SDK Uses Outgoing TCP Connections On Ports 6667, 27900, And 28900; And Outgoing UDP On Port 28900.

GameSpy Hosts Must Allow Incoming UDP On Port 6500.

General GameSpy Housekeeping Protocols Require Outgoing TCP On 29920, Outgoing UDP On 29910 And Incoming UDP On A Dynamic UDP Port (It's Not Fixed).

Directplay Initial TCP Connection: Client 47624 Outbound, Host 47624 Inbound

Directplay Subsequent TCP Connections: 2300-2400 Inbound And Outbound

Directplay Subsequent UDP Connections: 2300-2400 Inbound And Outbound

I don't use a firewall/router/proxy. How can I open these ports then? Thanks

Are you saying you tried to play, or host the game and it won't work.

Have you tried it ?

With no fireall, or router keeping those ports closed, they should open when you execute the game.

Yes, I can't host or join any games in the lobby. I used to have a firewall installed, but I uninstalled it using the add-remove software option. Not sure if there are anything left in the register or files, etc. I have no idea how to fix it.

Yes, some firewalls leave registry entries that will hold previous blocked ports blocked even after a 'normal' uninstall.

Which firewall was it? ZoneAlarm has a page at www.zonelabs.com decribing how to fully uninstall it.
http://store.www5.zonelabs.master.com/texis/master/search/?q=uninstall&submit.x=13&submit.y=15

Try the faq pages at the homesite of any other firewall if it wasn't ZA

A registry cleaner program like System Mechanic at www.iolo.com may help as well.

It was Agnitum Outpost Free. Do you know a work around for this Firewall for complete uninstallation?

Thanks

thanks, I did what they suggested and it still didn't work.

I only wonder what they mean with this: "Go to the hardware manager, select to show even the not displayed devices and look if you find entries like Outpost Firewall ... Remove them. "

Where is the hardware manager? I use Win98 btw.:)

Probably means the device manager. To see the ghost drivers you could boot to 'safe mode', but I doubt a software firewall will have a hardware device in 98. Try anyway.

To get to 'device manager' right click "My Computer" icon, and select 'properties' then click the 'device' tab. From safe mode if you want ghost devices. (old removed devices that still have drivers in case of reinstall)

Try searching at google for more info on uninstalling outpost, you may come up with better info.
