I just updated my server at home. It's not the latest, greatest hardware, but it kicks ass here at home.

Radeon 32meg video with heat sinks since the agp is runing at 90mhz. Slot converter so that I can add a 1GHz, 133 FSB processor. 512 megs of Crucial ram. Promise raid controller with four 60gig IBM drives in a 0+1 array (120 gigs of fast, redundant, storage :D) 3Com nic, Enermax power supply. Sony cd-rom. No sound, I have my game machine for that. I cut out the front and back and put A/C filters to keep the dust out. I also put a white led for the hard drives and a blue led for power. Added some sound dampening material since it sits in my living room and runs 24/7, it's very quite.

looks good roundeye, how hard is it to shorten ribbon cables ?

i have tried to find a place that will sell about 10 or so connectors and maybe 10 feet of cable . but they all want to sell you a 100 foot roll.

it would be neat to make our own cables i think.

The only one I shortened on this case was the floppy (I think). All I did was cut the slack off with a xacto knife. I just used the B floppy connector on the mobo and the A connector is on the floppy.

I have shortened IDE cables before and it's not too hard. The hard part is getting the connector off of the cable without breaking the locking tabs.

Once you get the connector off, put the connector on a hard surface with the holes facing down. (I used my garage floor).

At this point you will see all of the little pins that cut into the cable. Put the ribbon cable over them, lining the cable up real straight with the pins. Then slide the locking plate over it and give it a good, swift, whack with something heavy.

I used a small brass hammer that I have, the connectors are pretty tough, if they are on a nice flat surface.

After the connector is on good, then I use an xacto knife to cut off the slack cable.
