Hello, I live in Peru and we just got cable modem here. It only allows us to download at 15kb/s and upload 5kb/s. When I download stuff from sites (movies, progs, etc.) it works perfectly and I always hit my cap. Now my problem is that anything other than htpp (mirc, ftp, kazaa, etc) is just lousy. It will download max at 2kb/s and lag a lot. Now dont tell me that some mirc, ftp, kazaa downloads might go slow, I understand completely why it might go slow. But im 100% sure this ftp server can send me faster than 2kb/s and I have also tried with many other servers. So i know the speed problem is me. Now what fixes this sometimes is keep reconnecting to my ISP and keep trying the same file from the FTP and sometimes if im lucky i get my 15kb/s speed back with no lag. I called my cable company and they told me that their service was only meant for http, and they recongize that our ftp/mirc/anything other than http , speeds might be really slow. The only sugestion they told me was to keep reconnecting to the ISP till i got my speed back.
Now when I connect I usually type this is my login screen:
Login: user@cablenet
Password: ******
but what I have find out is that if I only write this:
Login: user <---- without the @cablenet
Password: ******
I will get more chances of getting my ftp/mirc/kazaa 15kb/s speed back.
Anyone know what I can do to fix this? and also why would their service be good only for http ( a friend told me that the cable they use aint good for ftp)
Thanks
