ok I'm getting dsl in about a week my question is I have 2 c.o.'s i know one is about 1400ft away i'm not sure aobut the other one but i thinks its a little less
one is a little closer then the other not by much though is there a way i could pick what c.o. I go through or does the isp set that for me. two questions more also I know that you would never get 100% of ur capss when is the point when my speeds drop to start complianing my capp will be 1.5/256
also does anyone one have tips or things i should be aware of with dsl thank u

You have only one central office - the one that is on the other end of the phone cable from your residence.

At one time it was possible to rent a pair between central offices so that you could retain an old phone number. It was called FX, or Foreign eXchange, service.

No longer. Most if not all of the interexchange cabling is either fiber or multiplexed copper.

No, you have no choice. You are physically connected to 1 particular CO. Wherever the copper running through your neighborhood interfaces with your Telco, that is your CO.

Want to find out which CO you are coming out of ? Try this Mapquest Area Code/NNX lookup (http://mapquest.com/maps/areacode.adp)

Basically, Mapquest sets the map pin on top of the CO that services whatever Area Code and exchange you specify.

Tips for DSL....in the past 3 area's I've lived in, I always had problem free DSL by having the phone company run brand new wires in from the street....up to and inside of the house...right to the phone jack that my DSL modem is to be plugged into.

If the house or location is less than 5 years old, I wouldn't bother with that , YOSC.

Older than 10 years, definitely an option.

Older than 15 years, insist on it.

You should see whatever bandwidth the server you are downloading from will allow you to, up to about 85-90% of that 1.5Mb
