A T-1 is 1.544Mbits per second.
A T-3 is about 43 Mbps.
Now if you really want fast:

STS-3 is 155.52 Mbps
OC-1 = 51.85 Mbps
OC-3 = 155.52 Mbps
OC-12 = 622.08 Mbps
OC-24 = 1.244 Gbps
OC-48 = 2.488 Gbps
OC-192=9.952 Gbps

So call your local Isp and ask for a OC-192 right now!!! :D :D

yep. my ISP quoted me $999/mo for a frame relay T1. still too pricey for personal use (at this point, anyway) IMO. there is also more to consider when getting a T1. some providers need you to supply the hardware at both ends, while some will supply the hardware on their end. and T1 routers ane kind of on the pricey side.

there are even faster Sonet lines up to OC-768 (40Gbps), but (*whew*)...... you need to be a major telcom to afford or even justify something like that.

You are going to pay $xxx.00 to the telco for the t-1 to your ISP, then pay them for the connection to the internet.

The line and the internet service are two separate items. Even if you are able to buy from the backbone provider in your area, you are going to pay Loop+Port

Loop - the physical connection
Port - the bandwidth

covad offers both in my area for about $600US. You can get fractional T1's - much more stable than almost any other soho connection.

Just got a fax from UUNet ;)

These prices just reflect my cost for the bandwidth, not the Loop, the transport from their pop (point of prescence) to me. Loop is around $4500 per month.

Interesting numbers. For the 15mb service, 1gigabyte = $2.36

Seems like a lot.

Kip, those #'s are before my "discount".

Amazing. Simply Amazing. I haggle for bandwidth in the same manner I haggled for gold in the gold souk in Dubai and Abu Dhabi when I was in the Navy. AND get about the same level of discount, paying 60% of what they originally asked ;)
