My cable speeds are horrible at the moment. Im wondering do i have the right to complain to my cable company? If so, will they do anything about my speed? Will they give me more bandwith? Would complaining do anything at all?

One year ago i tested my speeds at DSL reports and got (i live in cali so the tests should be for me)

3000/120 steady all the time

Now testing today i got

188/46

&

33 / 40

I'm also in Cali and my service with Adelphia has gone from great to s**t. I complained and they extended my intro price (29$ a month) for 6 more months. Did they fix the problem? No, but at least I saved a couple bucks:)

You might want to try this. When I first got my cable, it was awesome. I could download a whole music album ripped at 192 in a .rar file in just 5 mins. Then I added programs here and there to my computer. Little by little I would notice that my bandwith was just sucking big time. So I called the cable tech out to my place. We did some investigating and found somethings to do. For one, try to open your run command from the start button and going to run. Then type in MSCONFIG. goto the far tab on the left, in windows XP, and take out all of the items from startup. Reboot and then try your connection again. If it is faster, then you had a program that was fighting your bandwith. Slowly but surely go back to MSCONFIG and add one program back that you would really need, like an antivirus or a firewall. Then apply and restart. Then test your internet connection again. If it doesn't gets worse, then you can probably bet that the program that you picked is the culprit. I found that I didn't need any but 2 programs in my start up. Those were my Norton Anti-virus and my Black Ice Firewall. I tried to use ZoneAlarm Pro firewall but it just hosed up my system something bad. It is a good firewall, but the True Vector system that they use is very unstable and not good with many programs, so I had to uninstall it. I hope that this information can help someone out there. If you are willing to take the time to try these steps to raise your bandwith, then you will reap the benefits and you will see your system load faster and easier!

Definately call the cable company cand complain. Most of the time they will do something for you. If they cant fix the problem then they might give u money back or something. Just be persisten and if the first time you call nothing happens just call back again.
