I got a problem I have never seen before. If I dont use my modem, like if I am downloading stuff overnight OR even when I am using it something weird happens. It will completey shut down. No activity, no lights, nothing. The only way to get it back is to reach behind and disconnect the power cord and then rec-connect it in a few minutes.

Anyways it seems kind of hopeless, here are my numbers and junk. I hate computers.

TCP options string = 020405b40103030501010402

MTU = 1500
MTU is fully optimized for broadband.

MSS = 1460
Maximum useful data in each packet = 1460, which equals MSS.

Default Receive Window (RWIN) = 262144
RWIN Scaling (RFC1323) = 5 bits
Unscaled Receive Window = 8192
For optimum performance, consider changing RWIN to a multiple of MSS.
Other values for RWIN that might work well with your current MTU/MSS:
513920 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 8)
256960 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 4)
128480 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 2)
64240 (MSS x 44)

bandwidth * delay product:
Your RcvWindow limits you to: 10485.76 kbps (1310.72 KBytes/s) @ 200ms
Your RcvWindow limits you to: 4194.304 kbps (524.288 KBytes/s) @ 500ms

MTU Discovery (RFC1191) = ON

Time to live left = 51 hops
TTL value is ok.

Timestamps (RFC1323) = OFF

Selective Acknowledgements (RFC2018) = ON

IP type of service field (RFC1349)= 00000000

If all the lights go out that seems like a problem with the modem itself.

Your connection could use some tweaking, but that won't help your current problem.

I would call your tech support and once this issue is resolved post in the tweaking forum to get your connection optimized;)

Comcast had a problem with "sleeping" RCA modems until a patch was applied.Let your tech support know so they can investigate the same thing.

Are you using the USB port to connect to the modem?

If so, you may wish to use the Ethernet connection instead.

There is a reset botton did you try that frist ?
2ed im a sir tech 4 a big isp .and what you did by unpluging it and pluging it back in after a min or will not work ..do this frist ok
unplug power cord on the back THEN REBOOT with that power cord out when your OS is back up plug it in..if this wont work
THE MODEM NEED to be===> PROVISIONED and after that if it is still not working .a rebuild will work

lol..just go swap it 4 a provisioned one ask if it is..

i agree with kip, its probably the usb connection either an option with a sleep setting on ur comp or "something"

try using the ethernet port if u have a ethernet card or dont mind heading to comp usa and pickign up a 15 dollar linksys card

I just re-read the thread -

Are ALL the light on the modem going off, including the power light?

There is a known problem with some RCA modems that involves a bad power connection. If the power light is off, then everything we all said above does not apply.

If all the lights go out that seems like a problem with the modem itself.

I don't know seems like what I said here applies:D

lol, just kidding Kip:D

On the Comcast network or any isp if the power light is of call 1-800-comcast and tell them about power light .
if the pc ight is out could be severs ...if you release and renew your ip is it still a 68.+++.+++.+++ or are you getting a 169. or 192 ? A 169 is invaled and could come back DHCP sever error .(sever is out ) OUTAGE or tracking it.
192 is a hub or router ..if so dissconect the network and power cycle the modem pull the power out of back of modem and reboot then release and renew
95 98 or me <--start run winipcfg
xp <-start control panel >network conn> then LAN> go to the the tab next to the genr. tab and hit REPAIR
win 2000 .> start run >cmd>ipconfig/all then ipconfig/release then ipconfig/renew
IF A RED X OR YELLOW ! OR ? this is drivers are not installed right or the nic its self

HOPE THIS HELP SOMEONE IF YOU HAVE A Q JUST HOLLA

( I am a sir tech 4 comcast ) but dont hate me 4 that its a JOB..lol
