Hey guys, let me start by sayin I have Speakeasy IDSL which is 144k down and 144k up, i know it's slow but I mainly got this connection for the pings and how it never disconnects, but I have this weird problem and I think it's my router...
I get this strange packet loss sometimes and i'm wondering if it's my router or my ISP? I have a Linksys (the 4 port one) BEFS41 or something..
I'd ping google when I get packet loss and i'd get like 10 percent loss, but in Warcraft 3 on battle.net even 10 percent packet loss means they can disconnect you..
I thought I fixed my problem the other day when I reset my router to default factory settings but now I played today and I got disconnected again, I then pinged google and saw that I had more packet loss, this time around 10 to 25 percent and sometimes 50 percent!
Right now i have my router disconnected and i'm getting 0 percent packet loss but I bet if i reconnect my router i'll also get 0 percent packet loss, i'd really like to know where to start on how to fix my problem.. I have the latest Linksys router firmware.. but my nic card I can't find the driver for it's the "Netgear FA310TX 10/100" adapter.
I pinged to my router and got no packet loss (192.168.1.1) but when I ping my gateway I got some packet loss... packet loss to my own gateway?... that's kind of bad isn't it?
Here's my test information from Speedguide:
SpeedGuide.net TCP/IP Analyzer
TCP properties for IP = (dsl092-150-186.wdc1.dsl.speakeasy.net)
Browser/OS = Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 5.5; Windows NT 5.0)
Note: Read the FAQ if the above is not your IP address.
TCP options string = 020405b401030300
MTU = 1500
MTU is fully optimized for broadband.
MSS = 1460
Maximum useful data in each packet = 1460, which equals MSS.
Default Receive Window (RWIN) = 11680
RWIN Scaling (RFC1323) = 0 bits
Unscaled Receive Window = 11680
RWIN is a multiple of MSS
Other values for RWIN that might work well with your current MTU/MSS:
513920 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 8)
256960 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 4)
128480 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 2)
64240 (MSS x 44)
bandwidth * delay product:
Your RcvWindow limits you to: 467.2 kbps (58.4 KBytes/s) @ 200ms
Your RcvWindow limits you to: 186.88 kbps (23.36 KBytes/s) @ 500ms
Consider increasing your RWIN value to optimize TCP/IP for broadband.
MTU Discovery (RFC1191) = ON
Time to live left = 55 hops
TTL value is ok.
Timestamps (RFC1323) = OFF
Selective Acknowledgements (RFC2018) = OFF
IP type of service field (RFC1349)= 00000000
Can anyone tell me how I can figure out if it's my router that's causing the packet loss?
