Hi guys.....
Can someone help me please?
I'm with sympatico DSL......
When browsing different pages I get a message 'Work Offline/Try Again'.
It is driving me nuts. Each page I go to I can either wait up to 30 seconds to get this message then select try again and away I go,
or I can press stop then refresh and sometimes it works right away.
I have phoned sympatico and they are of no help!
I did select tools/Internet options/connections/LAN settings and unchecked all the boxes like I was told.......I seem to get on faster but still an having all the previous problems......
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Here are some results......

TCP properties for IP = 65.xx.xx.xx (toronto-hse-ppp36xxxx.sympatico.ca)
Browser/OS = Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows 98; MSOCD)
Note: Read the FAQ if the above is not your IP address.

TCP options string = 020405860103030201010402

MTU = 1454
MTU is not fully optimized for broadband. Consider increasing your MTU to 1500 for better throughput.

MSS = 1414
Maximum useful data in each packet = 1414, which equals MSS.
MSS is not fully optimized for broadband (although it might work well for slower connections). Consider increasing your MTU value.

Default Receive Window (RWIN) = 256960
RWIN Scaling (RFC1323) = 2 bits
Unscaled Receive Window = 64240
For optimum performance, consider changing RWIN to a multiple of MSS.
Other values for RWIN that might work well with your current MTU/MSS:
520352 (MSS x 46 * scale factor of 8)
260176 (MSS x 46 * scale factor of 4)
130088 (MSS x 46 * scale factor of 2)
65044 (MSS x 46)

bandwidth * delay product:
Your RcvWindow limits you to: 10278.4 kbps (1284.8 KBytes/s) @ 200ms
Your RcvWindow limits you to: 4111.36 kbps (513.92 KBytes/s) @ 500ms

MTU Discovery (RFC1191) = ON

Time to live left = 52 hops
TTL value is ok.

Timestamps (RFC1323) = OFF

Selective Acknowledgements (RFC2018) = ON

IP type of service field (RFC1349)= 00000000

My Computer is win98
Speed really isn't a factor because when it finally connects speed is good.
DSL not sure about PPPoE...
Thanks

There are 3 different fixes for that problem, one being a reg patch, you can find ezach solution here: http://www.carricksolutions.com/windowspppoe.htm#12

Sorry I have a hard time beleiving that as this would be the first time that one of those fixes did not fix the problem.

I did every one I installed the patch.....
I already have internet explorer 6.0.0026.0000SI
I reinstalled msn without e-mail as it suggested then had internet explorer repair itself....nothing seems to work. When I click on the link in your message I either wait and wait until I get the message or click stop then hit refresh and away I go again for a while.
:(

So you uninstalled MSN Messenger? Then followed the steps to set up your browser again?

Hi Bob.....

Just want to thank you for your help.....seems to be working really good right now.
Just a couple of small issues that aren't too important.....
Eg: when I click on this link in outlook express....
http://forums.speedguide.net/showthread.php?threadid=86405&goto=newpost I still have to hit stop/refresh.
But have not had the message since I uninstalled msn messenger, and been surfing for a while.
Does this mean I can't have messenger installed?

Thanks again......
