View Full Version : Folding at work?
I'm a networkserverhelpdesksidesupport kinda guy at a .com
Semi-contractor, my boss Initially setup their network, servers, firewall, blah, blah, blah.
I'm the only one that has half a clue about computers and I could
(I won't...but I could without anyone knowing) setup Folding on about 40 laptops and desktops.
Do any of you have any thoughts on the subject?
Just curious.
That would be nice but it shouldn't be done without permissions. First from your boss and then from the client. It probably would call for some persuasive salesmanship on your part. I wish you the best of luck if you decide to pursue this. :)
Well there have been many lengthy discussions about this type of thing on this forum. Too bad the achives don't go back that far. The general concensus has been, no, it just isn't a good idea. Taking/using without permission isn't good. Even if you did do such a thing give credit where credit is due. Start up a new team with the name of the client.
WoW, 40 laptops and desktops, hmmmmmm, that would make a great back up, but i do agree with Poptom and agentbeast. We had some controversies about ppl installing Folding and Genoming clients on their work rigs, libraries and other places that have a large number of machines. The truth is, it's better to get permission from the boss, manager or supervisor before doin something like that. Even tho is all goin to a great cause, it has a lot of repercussions if done "under the table" per say.
I think its a great idea you thought of joining the Fold. We could use all the help we can get !
I wish you all the best in your decision about this :)
Ask, they may let you... ;)
But don't do it with out permission as it could cost you your job! And maybe prosecution...
Don't get me wrong guys...I'm not going to.
I just wanted an idea of what people thought of the practice.
I can't find the link (from another board) about someone getting sued or dismissed or some d@mn thing, for doing exactly that.
I like food and shelter... :)
Morally....I have zero problem with it.
Legally....Could get singed from the backfire.
Anyways, thanks for the input.
Hey, anytime, just cover all your bases. ;)
