Ok, im using a MK33 Aopen motherboard, with Duron900 processor, connected to a usb mouse, and a USB connected cable modem, im running it all on win98, with full service packs.

Ive noticed a fresh format, install everything, the system runs fantastic, just like it does on win2k(theres other reasons why i dont use win2k), after awhile though, it runs like it does now.

And webpages take minutes to get downloaded , and then suddenly it worked 90% fine, then it goes dead again, like it only works in bursts. While downloads work 100%, and dont freeze as such, neither in games, however download speeds go at 11-15k a second, instead of the usual 60k.

Its really annoying, yet it works fantastic on win2k, but i cant use it as it has driver issues with my gfx card.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

People have blamed it on usb power issues or similar yet i wouldnt know how to solve it, and please dont suggest to swap to nic card, i would prefer to avoid it :)

Thanks for reading.

Welcome to Speedguide:D, sorry to say I bet anything it's the USB connection, USB modems are nothing but trouble. NICs are very cheap and your modem should have an ethernet connection on it, you won't be sorry if you change it, it will be faster and much more stable.:)
