i have bellsouth adsl which came with an alcatel usb modem, that modem has never worked well and i want to share the connection with another computer. both computers have a nic card and i have a linksys router, but the router only has ethernet connectors. i bought an ethernet dsl modem(efficient networks speadstream, no installation needed) off ebay but cant get the new modem to work. bellsouth of course wont help. what do i have to do to get this to work???? thanks for any help

Most likely you need to call your ISP and give them the mac address off the new modem.:)

If all else fails hook the USB modem up to your computer and use ICS to share the connection with the other computer. I do that even though i have an ethernet cable connection I just like being hooked up straight to the modem, no router :)

Cable providers authorize by your MAC, DSL providers do not. Only reason a DSL provider would care about MAC is if they were setting a static IP address in their DHCP. Bellsouth does not do static IP for residential DSL.

Did you get any documentation with this modem? Have you checked the manufacturer's support options?
