I just got a FVS318 vpn/firewall to replace my RT314 router. I have tried just about everyting but the 318 will not get an IP address from Comcast.net. If I reconnect the RT314 everything works normal.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Emanuel

Just manually enter the data into the router instead of it trying
to obtain the info. I hope this helps.

This is an easy fix. Since your new router has an firewall built into it it most likely is dropping/filtering the incoming DHCPREQ and next the DHCPACK packet. You need to open port(s) 67 & 68 inbound & outbound on you router to allow the router to send and recieve dhcp data.

Once those are open your router can use DHCP and will recieve an ip without an problem.

Matt

Thanks for the suggestions, both really good. The FVS318 is up and running. I had given up on it the other night and I left it running thinking that the ARP table needed time to clear the MAC address that was assigned to the RP314. In the morning it was fine.

Thanks again,

Emanuel

Thats correct! Unplugging the modem for a few seconds and plugging it back in will accomplish the same thing.
