Ok folks heres the deal. I know I have asked this question before but I have tried all the suggestions I was given and still my CPU is running at like 60 degrees. I have an aluminium Lian LI - PC 60, with 5 case fans (2 on the front sucking cold air in, 1 on the side just over the CPU blowing cold air in, 1 on the top of the case blowing air out and 1 on the back taking air out.) I have a massive heatsink and powerful fan on the CPU rated up to a 2 gig (mine is only a 1 gig). Now my temps are runing between 55 and 60 degrees all the time?? I have tried playing with the fans and swapping different ones blowing different directions and so forth but to no avail. Could I be getting false readings off my motherboard cos nothing in there seems to feel very hot. Or could a faulty processor cause the temp's to be to high?? Damn the whole lot is going out the window if I dont get it sorted soon!!! Please help before I go insane and start to lose my temper with this thing!!!! Cheers.
Oh if ya need to know any more info to help just ask!!!!

1) Try removing the HSF....cleaning everything well (removing all the old gunk)...re-applying some quality thermal grease properly (nice even thin layer), and re-mounting the HSF correctly (get it right on the first shot, because pulling it off/on/off/on just introduces lots of air bubbles into the grease, rendering it less effective). Mount that HSF on the very first shot....all downward, do not pull up to try again, else if you do, start over wiping it all clean again.
2) I don't know what HSF you have, but perhaps try another type. There are lots rated for 2 gigs out there, but some work better than others.

What CPU? also I have seen those temp sensors be out as much as 15C + or - . Just keep in mind that you pay around 100.00 and up for a temp sensor for you car and your average board is about the same cost but it's a motherboard, so how reliable is that little cheep sensor. (just something I remind my customers about when they complain that there system is running "hot" ).
also what HSF are you using?

Its an AMD athlon 1gig, not overclocked. Im using a coolermaster heatsink and fan combo. I know they aint the best but I cant get hold of nothing better around this area. It's not the standard one that came with the puter i put an uprated one on there. All the write up on the packaging sounded good and the computer in the shop I bought it from is using one and he has no problems with case temps at all.

Ok i just left the computer turned off for over an hour. The room temp here is probably about 25 degrees, and when i switched it on i jumped straight into the bios and checked temps. It says my cpu is 38 degrees. Surely that cant be right judging by how long the puter had been off for?? Sounds like a dodgy temp sensor dont ya'll reckon???
Could be. Get some artic silver, remove the heatsink/fan from the mobo as YOSC mentioned. Most likely it has that friggin crappy tape attached to the bottom. Clean that off and put a dab of fresh artic silver then remount. Also that fan configuration looks good leave it.
This is the way it should be
Fans:
Bottom front-intake
side-- intake
blowhole (top)- out
Rear- out
Also, you wanna make sure the hsf is installed correctly and not tilted. Most of the time if it's tilted and not makin good contact with the cpu, it'll overheat. Just check that too.
If none of this works, you might wanna think of switching hsf

Ive already changed the ****e on the hsf to artic silver. Didnt work the first time so i did it again and still never made no difference so that cant be the problem. i really think that the temps it is telling me are wrong. is there any other way i can find out my temps or are all of them gonna work off the same sensor. Suppose they are aint they. Oh bugger it i give up!! Cant do no more to make it cool.....case already sounds like its about to take off!!!!
Dam, then it's gotta be a sensor that's off. No other explanation. Unless you install MBM5, but it too might give the same readings as it reads off the sensors on the mobo.
You might have to get one of these :

I have a panel that has 2 of those monitors. The sensor attaches to the bottom center of the cpu core to give you accurate readings.
This is what i have :

Yer i been thinking of fitting something along those lines. Are they hard to fit, or is it a straightforward job???

Yup ! All you do is mount it to an empty rom slot in your case, run the wires, and attach one sensor to the bottom of the cpu, the other to what ever you want to monitor the temp from. Say the inside of your case, that's it. Easy as pie ! ;)
