CD-recording software that decides for you what you can burn? Yes, Roxio is going to release a version of Toast (v5.1.4), which cannot copy protected audio-cd's, as they are recognized by the software protection.
With the latest version of Toast(writing software for the mac)it wont be possible in the future to copy protected audio cd`s,Now Roxio in coorperation the the record company`s have set in the agreement that they can modify there software online so it wont be possible to copy protected audio cd`s.
The security update`s Roxio talks about in there agreement was discovered by Davon Crandon on the maclist of TheMacintoshguy in the agrement stands :
Owners of such Secure Content ("Secure Content Owners") may, from time to time, request Roxio or its suppliers to provide security related updates to the DRM components of the Software ("Security Updates") that may affect your ability to copy, display and/or play Secure Content through the Software or other applications that utilize the Software. You therefore agree that, if you elect to download a license from the Internet which enables your use of Secure Content, Roxio or its suppliers may, in conjunction with such license, also download onto your computer such Security Updates that a Secure Content Owner has requested that Roxio or its suppliers distribute.
Roxio it self doesnt mention anything about this on there website. It`s possible that the same agreement will be in the pc version of Toast to better know as , EZ CD Creator,But until now there is no proof thats it is
Kinda dumb move, don't you think?
