I just downloaded this program from this site:

http://www.fsm.nl/ward/

It was recommended by a major Uk newspaper.( Daily Telegraph)

It looks for files encrypted within your pc that holds all of the records of your internet activities . Files that you cannot delete through the usual methods.

Deleting manually or with a Dos batch file is easier, and you don't need to install a program that you have no reason to trust.

Speak the truth Norm, scripts or batch files are power!!

Hey Stef, good to see you. :)

No wonder there are so many people having problems with thier computers, they'll install anything that sounds good, when if they looked around, thier OS can do the same thing without using anymore resources, or installing a stranger to thier system.
Popup stoppers, webwashers, IE cache history, and cookiecleaners, etc are a waste of space and in some cases resources.

IE index.dat files are in use while in windows, so just delete them from Dos before windows loads.

Part of my win98 autoexec.bat file looks like this:
deltree /y c:\windows\tempor~1
deltree /y c:\windows\cookies
deltree /y c:\windows\history

My IE cache goes to a ramdrive, and is deleted on boot anyway, but in certain circumstances the IE cache gets written to the default local at times, those lines make sure it gets wiped no matter what. Index files,... the whole shebang.

Yes scripts are power, I admit it :)

Spider is ok for those who, unlike Norm and others, don't want to start with logging in every time they boot up, dialup for instance.

There is another program that does the same thing and it's called BearDelete. Instead of using the win98 autoexec.bat file method, this uses the same commands but from within a "run once" type program that gives you control over when you do your cleaning. Spider does the same thing with a bit more control over what you remove.

To each his own. There are good and bad in both methods.

Hi ,

I just gotto say : I 'm not a computer expert nor do I work in the field of computers. I agree it is safer to do everything manually but :

1- I dont know how to manually access dos files.
2- before this article in the paper , I had no idea that all my web page activities were stored in this index.dat file.

This paper listed the best 20 shareware software of which avg , zone alarm , adaware and webwasher were included.

Another one some people might consider :

IE-spyad : this puts a list of sites into your restricted internet zone which might cause you problems if active x , scripting is turned on.

Start Page Guard - this makes sure that no site can change your home page.

Why did I put these programs on ?

Someone I know had his Browser Hijacked
( see http://www.spywareinfo.com/hijacked.html for details ).

Caused quite a few problems and I hope these programs will prevent something like that happening.

I did check with spychecker to make sure no hidden spies on board and I did read reviews by other people before loading.
