Anything is possible but a hardware firewall that is built into a router is much more secure than a software firewall such as Zone Alarm. The only downside to a hardware firewall only is that is does not alert you to out going data but it blocks incoming attacks better. Look here (http://www.howstuffworks.com/firewall.htm) for some good information on how firewalls work.

P.S. I use a router without any software firewall.;) :)

Your IP address is assigned by your ISP.:)

That's not how it works. Your ISP assigns your IP and changes it when they want to change it, just because you unplug your modem doesn't mean you are going to be assigned another IP address.:)

You mean a trojan? Just make sure you have a good antivirus app that is continuosly scaning your pc and do weekly scans and you should be fine. My suggestion is use Norton Antivirus.:) :D

Try changing you NIC, if you are running a linksys, change to a 3comm.

A different MAC address should get you a different IP.
