SMC Barricade and NNTP

I give. I switched out a LinkSys switch for a SMC Barracde router SMC7004VBR. Forte Agent and PowerPost 2000 would post to NNTP newsgroups just fine. Now, it appears that when I send to these servers I never get a response back even though the port shows connection made. It acts like that the router is blocking the acknowledgement back from the server. Anybody got any ideas?
