Username and password required...means your ISP uses PPPoE for authentication. Just about all home market routers support PPPoE, including the Linksys you mention.

The Linksys Etherfast, while gathering a bad reputation in it's infancy and early firmware versions, has matured into a very easy to use router, that does the job OK performance wise. I've installed MANY of them on the job, and will continue to do so.

If you're into online gaming, and want a bit more performance, then look up a Netgear router, or if you can afford it...better yet...a Nexland ISB SOHO. Otherwise, for average use... the Linksys is fine for you.

I'd say stay away from Linksys. And Agree that nexland is the way to go.

I have the very same Linksys router and have had few problems with it at all, and those were minor.

However, if I had it to do over, I would go with the Nexland, due to gaming and the opinions of others here.

But the Linksys works fine for general sharing, and its hard to beat the price.
