Hello all (new to the forum!):
I'm troubleshooting a 5-user wrkgrp -

"server":
win2k pro, SP2
w/ Earthlink ADSL (winpoet) (IC sharing enabled)
Linksys 10/100 EFAH08W hub
great connection speed at the server

"workstations":
4 - win2k pro, SP2
1 - win98se

all workstations are painfully slow in IE5+ (pings & traceroutes are fast). once the page loads (2-3 minutes, sometimes longer) downloads are fast, but moving page to page blows. Any toughts, advice, suggestions??

Hardware router....because Windows ICS ...or any software method of sharing, when compared to a hardware router, are slow in my opinion.

Poke through the "ICS" section of this index just to make sure you have it setup correctly:

agreed but I've setup many of these and never a performance like this --- 2-3 minutes to open cnn.com or msn.com on an adsl (1.1mbps) connection, that's insane!

By chance, LAN side NIC from "server" to the hub patch cable old, try swapping ports?

You stated you've done this setup before and they've all worked fine, so we'll assume it's setup correctly.

The machine acting as the server been around a while, or brand new? If older, cleaning up (temp, cookies, temp int files, etc). No "lmhosts" files from prior networks affecting DNS? Firewall on the server?
