ability to comment/discuss news from SG's main/front page

have though about this from time to time. if you have ever looked at www.SysOpt.com 's main/home page, there are links to comment on news headlines.

i think this is a good idea, as it gives people a chance to be topical and add their $.02, without the thread getting lost in a sea of threads or crapped on the the mayhem that is the forums.

maybe a specific news forum? one where there are no new threads other than ones started regarding a front/home page headline? or maybe one with new threads started by members but i think that would just turn into a pseudo-topical general forum (bad thing? good thing?.... i'm not sure).

hmmm..... or what about all the news headlines getting "important" 'd, and let the members open the floodgates of semi-news related discussions.

i was just thinking it could be another way to drive membership from the front/main page. i would venture to guess there are many people who hit the front page and joining a discussion forum didn't occur to them.

I'd love that, IF we could control ourselves in the comments. It would give insight into what our forums contain, and might attract more peeps into SG that way. Might be a venue that gets the responses cached away for approval before posting, making us work harder to see our name on the front page(and prevent trolls from havin a heyday.) Nice thought Faust, I like it alot.

that feature can be easily implemented with newspro, which is our news software... it's a cgi script

their website doesn't seem to be up right now

there are addons to dl for it, but i can't seem to find any right now, heh... i don't think this script is supported anymore or something....

anyways, our new design is, well um.... better :)
