Q question, does AVG remove viruses? or just detect them? or both:D ?

From the AVG "Help Files, Jack. Hope it answers your question. :) The first quote is fo the Virus Vault. The second is for Automatic Healing of files.

The AVG Virus Vault
When AVG detects a virus that cannot be removed by healing, it uses a special way of deleting the infected file - AVG moves it to the AVG Virus Vault.

What is the AVG Virus Vault?
The AVG Virus Vault is a special directory that stores infected files. The name of the files are changed and their content is encrypted so they cannot be used and virus infection cannot spread. It is almost the same as ordinary deleting techniques; however, the AVG Virus Vault gives you the ability to restore the files, if necessary.

The desktop of the AVG Virus Vault is divided into three parts:

Toolbar
The toolbar contains buttons for quick and easy access to the most important functions:

Delete File – deletes – finally removes the file. It cannot be restored later.

The AVG Virus Vault has its own automatic maintenance - files stored in the AVG Virus Vault are deleted automatically depending on the parameters set.

Automatic Healing of Virus Infections
If the Complete Test, Removable Media Test, or Tests run from the System Menu detects an infected file, healing is launched automatically after the whole test is completed.
The program will move from one infected file to the next and activate the function for healing - removing the virus from the infected file.

Because this operation is fully automatic, only a simple window with a progress bar is displayed on the screen.
Note: if the program detects just a few viruses, this window may appear for only a moment.

Backup Copy
Before the file is healed, a backup copy is created. This backup copy can be used if the healing is unsuccessful in making the file functional. In this case, you can go back to the previous file, which of course, is still infected.

How's the firewall? ;)
