wireless linky problems.

Just bought me a laptop and was getting miffed at dragging the cable all over the place. SOOO i went and bought a Linksys Wireless Access Point and Linksys notebook PC card. I hooked up the WAP no problem. I guess its working since i can access the webbrowser admin program. And I installed the pc card into the laptop just the way it says for XP(insert cd, insert card, and let her do her own thing). But the notebook tells me NO wireless connaction is available. I check the wireless utility that come with XP and it says no signal is available. No WAP's online. Im literally 1 foot away from the WAP. WTH can it be? Am i missing a step? I did as instructions say, though they are kind of vague. Anyone?

Linksys & XP
Just found a security addendum on the Linksys site. It
is further instructions for XP.
You have to copy the wep generated 26 digit key from the
router. Exit
Go to the PC's wireless connection properties.
Disable "Network Authentication (shared mode)" and "Key
provided for me automatically".
Enter or paste the 26 digit network key, format = Hex,
and key length = 104 bit (26 digit).
