Here's what's been happening with my connection for the past 2 weeks. Before after I would go to bed every night (around 12:00 or 1:00 AM) my connection would drop for no reason.

I would go into command prompt and try to get it to pull a new IP and nothing. The only way to get a new IP would be to reboot. I called my ISP (COX Communications in AZ.) and they ran a couple of tests and said that everything seemed OK on their end. The tech told me that if it happened again to go ahead and call back before I reboot so they could check things out again.

Well when it did it again I spoke to another tech who told me that they had been having some problems in my area and that's why my connection kept dropping. He said that if it keeps happening they would have to send out a tech to check things out. The reason I don't want them to send a tech out is because they'll charge me for the visit.

Anyway, I have an MSI motherboard with on-board LAN (Realtek NIC) and also have a PCI NIC (Realtek aswell). My modem is a Toshiba PCX2200. Before I had the on-board LAN disabled and was using the PCI NIC. I figured that maybe they're clashing so I pulled out the PCI NIC and enabled the on-board NIC. I'm still having the same problem except for now instead of disconnecting in the early morning hours it will do it sometime during the day.

Does anyone know what I could do to fix this problem and avoid having my ISP send out a tech?

Thanks in advance...

You're rebooting the PC?

What does the error log in the modem say?

thanks,

Error log in the modem? Where exactly would I find that?

You should be able to reach the modem's internal web pages at 192.168.100.1. You may need to set your PC to a static address of 192.168.100.2 with a mask of 255.255.0.0.

If that does not work, try 192.168.1.1.

Not sure of the exact address on that modem.

Neither of those addresses worked...

Any other ideas?
