Does anyone know what the acceptable number of hops between two computers would be, when playing a game?
And what the acceptable time in "ms" for each hop would be?

I understand that the more hops it takes and the longer it takes for each hop effects "packet loss" and "latency"
What I need is a guideline: good, average, bad

Here's a example of what i mean. Here is a trace i did after a game i was playing kept freezing up now and again.

To most US sites it takes an average of 12-18 hops with 14 being an average so the trace seems ok.

Hop 3, which would appear to be part of your providers network, looks like it could be the problem because of the 100 ms ping. It should be 20 or under.

Are you from the United Kingdom?

Of course you are and your ISP is NTL. The transition of hop 7 - hop 8 is the transatlantic fiber.

Your pings are generally fine, even though it looks like you encounter a latency spike before the trip over the ocean.
