Hi all,

I am going thru a dsl nightmare and hope someone here can help. Here's my story:

Approximately 5 weeks ago, I got started on Earthlink DSL residential service. Since day 1, it has been ludicrous. I typically get speed tests at 150k to 350k and every once in a while I get a peak of around 550k, while it is supposed to be near the 1500k mark. I have contacted Earthlink tech support upon an almost daily basis and they cannot figure it out. Here's the details about my situation:
Equipment used:
Toshiba Satellite 1805-s203
Windows ME
Intel Celeron 850 MHz
Belkin 32 bit cardbus adapter with ethernet connection for my modem
WinPoet software and EL software installed and used

Other detials:
Phone company is Bellsouth
I live within 3000 ft of phone CO
Here is a link for TCP/IP analyzer:
http://forums.speedguide.net/cgi-bin/optd/optd.cgi?DATA_OFFSET=40&TCP_Options_string=020405860103030201010402&IP_MTU_DISCOVER=1&WIN=65044&RWIN=260176&MSS=1414&SCALE=2&TTL=55&TSOPT=0&SACK_PERM=1&IP_TOS=0&IP=165.247.164.149&timestamp=1025062195

I have replaced the modem, ethernet cord, and NIC card and these are NOT the problem
Numerous line quality tests have been done, NOT the problem
A clean phone cable has been run from the Network Interface Box directly to the modem with NO splitters and the problem is still present
I have used various tweaks and still have slow snail dsl
I have tried to change the IRQ setting on the network card used for the dsl modem connection, but my BIOS and/or OS will not let me, the card is sharing the same IRQ with 5 other devices
I have not installed any other devices
I have trimmed down my startup folder under msconfig, still problematic
I have even used another laptop with a clean install of Win ME OS and a clean install of Earthlink software and still have slow speeds

I have tried countless ideas and tweaks and fixes, but still am held prisoner to this. I have read that AM radios and halogen lamps may interfere with the dsl connection. Does this mean that even if these items are TURNED OFF can they still interfere? I am frustrated and would gladly pay the cancellation fee to get bellsouth dsl service if I knew I would not have to go thru the same thing. Please help me. Thank you in advance.

Do a traceroute test and see if it finds a problem, the easy one to do is here (http://www.pcpitstop.com/internet/default.asp).:)

i just switched to rasppoe and WOW what a difference! page loading is a lot faster and i have tested at several sites and the best i got was 1046k at pcpitstop.com and at dsl reports.com it was something like 550k. do i need to tweak the configuration for the dial up connection that rassppoe installed to get more speed, and if so, how do i do this?
