Ok I have fix the computer until I broke it. Right now I am running windows Me and my connection rocks. So I decided that I would install XP. It auto detected everything just fine and it does work just very slow. After a bit of reseach I found that my Nic card was older than sin and not supported. So I got one that was recommended by the ATT and was in XP list for compatable. Still slow. The setting for the configuation are just default for both OSes.

Right now I am back on Win Me and it works great.

(Made sure all my drivers where the latest)

In Minnesota, with ATT Broadband. 3COM cable modem
Linksys T100

So what are you asking? Or are you just making a comment? Did you upgrade to XP or do a fresh install?:)

I did a fresh install of Xp. Does running any of these tweaks help? Was also wondering if Windows XP has any inherant or common problems with cable modem connections?

Any recommendations?

XP is very tweakable, more so than ME. So is ME or XP on your PC now?:)

Right now I have Win Me on the system, but only takes an 1 and half to do fresh install. (I reinstall way to much).

I see people here posting a summary of there connection, what are they using?

After I do a fresh install anything that I should do or run right away?

Thanks for the help buy the way.

Tell you what, do a fresh install of XP and post back and I'll get you up to speed. There are alot of tweaks for XP in general also and I will give you links to them.:) :D

Well, I don't know if this will help much but, I have XP and also am on AT&T in Minnesota (Twin Cities suburb) and haven't had any issues with XP being slow. Is it possible your old machine is just too old to run XP smoothly? i.e. low memory?
