Check out this comparison:

The R8500 128Mb running at 275/275 almost matches the GF4 Ti4600..... I'm kinda skeptical of these benches, what you think??

Also, can the GF4 run Aniso filtering in D3D? I heard it can't. I know that R8500s can.

I'm still not sure if I should trade in my R8500 64Mb for the 128Mb or for a GF4 Ti4200.... ARGH

i'll have to make my choice tomorrow or maybe the day after, when the replacement R8500 comes back....

Is it worth it? Answer is up to your wallet.

Better move would be to wait for nVidia's usual early fall release of the next gen...which will dominate. Tis only a few months away now.

get away from the bull crap of the whole ATI underdog crap to the all mighty Nvidia crap. This is what it comes down to man,
Tiger, are you happy with what you have now? Do you really need the driver support?

If the first is instantly a yes, then forget it. ATI Radeon 8500 will more then overkill most games you will be playing for this generation of games and systems.
If you aren't satisfied with the performance of it, then get the Ti4200, it'll be a nice change.

As for the drivers, it's not a chant of the Nvidiots, but its the low down truth. ATi has like crack heads making their drivers, sure they have improved the standard and the quality, but at what cost? They left pretty much all their older card user base in the dust with their "new" catalyst drivers. Hell I installed them and it screwed my system up! All and all, from personal experience, Nvidia may have been the top dog for gaming and peformance and it still it, as their drivers are always there to back you up no matter what os you and they are pulling up their quality.

No doubt its good to have ATi in the industy, they make good stuff, but not the kind of stuff I'd like to have in my boxes anymore.

Ya, i'm leading towards trading in for a Ti4200 for a few reasons:

1) Ti4200 no doubt whips R8500 in everything cept for Aniso performance, but the Det5 drivers will make things more even.

2) My current system still has enough power to take full advantage of a GF4 (Once I get my waterblock and OC my CPU to around 1.7-1.8Ghz). If I wait out for a R300 or NV30, i'll have to get a new CPU/mobo and maybe new ram as well to FULLY take advantage of the R300/NV30 chip. No point in wasting a few hundred $ on a R300/NV30 if the bottleneck is my CPU/Ram, right?

3) ATi is dropping prices on all their current cards, so if I trade for a GF4 now, i'll only have to pay $100, whereas if i wait til after the price drop, i'll probably have to pay $130 or more.

4) Image quality is basically dead even between the cards, cept for maybe truform for the R8500, which is only really useful in CS... Although the models look nicer, the guns are messed up tho, so its not all good. GF4 has shadow buffers, which should be useful for Doom3

My replacement card still hasn't arrived yet... argh
