View Full Version : Please, some help needed
Hello !
where do i start ? :[
i took the TCP/IP Analyzer and everything was ok except the MTU:
MTU = 1400
MTU is not fully optimized for broadband. Consider increasing your MTU to 1500 for better throughput.
So i went to Windows 2000 & Windows XP Broadband Registry Tweaks section in SpeedGuide coz i wanted 2 find out how the **** should i change it, and i found this:
HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services
\Tcpip\Parameters\Interfaces\<interface>
MTU="1500" (DWORD, valid range is from 68 to <MTU of network>).
So i opened Regedit and i found the adress until the last part, i mean, i'v opened Interfaces\ and there i couldnt find MTU option.. so how should i change it ? shell i add a new Key ? String ? Binary? eh ?
No idea :/ plz help me changing it ?
Second thing:
UPLOAD SPEED
Your upload speed BLABLABLA, there is no adjustment that you can use to increase upload speed. Although in W2K & XP you can adjust your DefaultSendWindow to help with more effecient data transfer.
Well i have winXP (pro) and i would really like to improve my uploading speed, so, can some1 plz tell me how shell i do it ?
(BTW: i have ADSL)
Thanks alot i'll really apreciate if some1 will help me... !!

Your upload speed is capped by your ISP and you can't change it, who is your ISP AOL? Is AOL on your pc? Please post a TCP/IP Analyzer test and a current speed test ALL of the instructions are in "My Tips".:)
Look mate, i live in Israel, so i'm "kindda" not close to any of the countries mentioned in the speedtest website that u wrote.
Anyway, i have ADSL 1.5 package..
i did the speedtest of http://bandwidthplace.com/ but i'm kinda sure its bug-full and it's faking .. results:
Communications: 933.7 kilobits per second
Storage: 114 kilobytes per second
1MB file download: 9 seconds
Anyway i'm d/l at 200kb/s....
My isp is called "Internet Zahav" in Israel but ofcourse it means **** to u.. the speedtest wrote me in the results:
your ISP: European Regional Internet Registry/RIPE NCC..
:rolleyes:
Analyzer results:
TCP properties for IP = 213.8.172.61 ()
Browser/OS = Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.1)
Note: Read the FAQ if the above is not your IP address.
TCP options string = 020405500103030201010402
MTU = 1400
MTU is not fully optimized for broadband. Consider increasing your MTU to 1500 for better throughput.
MSS = 1360
Maximum useful data in each packet = 1360, which equals MSS.
MSS is not fully optimized for broadband (although it might work well for slower connections). Consider increasing your MTU value.
Default Receive Window (RWIN) = 256960
RWIN Scaling (RFC1323) = 2 bits
Unscaled Receive Window = 64240
For optimum performance, consider changing RWIN to a multiple of MSS.
Other values for RWIN that might work well with your current MTU/MSS:
522240 (MSS x 48 * scale factor of 8)
261120 (MSS x 48 * scale factor of 4)
130560 (MSS x 48 * scale factor of 2)
65280 (MSS x 48)
bandwidth * delay product:
Your RcvWindow limits you to: 10278.4 kbps (1284.8 KBytes/s) @ 200ms
Your RcvWindow limits you to: 4111.36 kbps (513.92 KBytes/s) @ 500ms
MTU Discovery (RFC1191) = ON
Time to live left = 51 hops
TTL value is ok.
Timestamps (RFC1323) = OFF
Selective Acknowledgements (RFC2018) = ON
IP type of service field (RFC1349)= 00000000
P.S: The real reason i'm checking all those tweaks it's because I want a lower ping (Latency) in Half Life: Counter Strike... Plz dont tell me to look in other furoms or something coz i'm already tired of it :/ i'v been searching alot .. anyway help plz ? Thx (I'v already fixed the huge ping jumps that XP causes.. if u were wondering)
;)
Thx alot man, i appreciate it :)

Since you are using XP and are looking to help with latency try downloading Cablenut (http://www.student.ipfw.edu/~gottjl01/files/cablenut408.exe) and try the following settings:
DefaultReceiveWindow = 17680/23120/27200/36720/55760/93840
DefaultSendWindow = 32120
InitialLargeBufferCount = 1000
InitialMediumBufferCount = 3000
InitialSmallBufferCount = 5000
LargeBufferSize = 409600
MaxFastTransmit = 17680/23120/27200/36720/55760/93840
MediumBufferSize = 150400
PriorityBoost = 0
SmallBufferSize = 6400
TransmitWorker = 32
FastSendDatagramThreshold = 1024
EnableFastRouteLookup = 1
EnablePMTUDiscovery = 1
GlobalMaxTcpWindowSize = 17680/23120/27200/36720/55760/93840
MaxFreeTcbs = 8000
MaxHashTableSize = 16384
MaxNormLookupMemory = 5000000
SackOpts = 1
Tcp1323Opts = 0 (set to 1 if RWIN is 65535 or higher)
TcpMaxDupAcks = 2
TcpRecvSegmentSize = 1460
TcpSendSegmentSize = 1460
TcpTimedWaitDelay = 30
TcpUseRFC1122UrgentPointer = 0
TcpWindowSize = 17680/23120/27200/36720/55760/93840
MaxConnectionsPer1_0Server = 20
MaxConnectionsPerServer = 10
DefaultTTL = 64
:) :D
Well no Israel there also so i'v taken Poland's, results:
Throughput (2)
15893 Bps
bytes per second
Modem speed
127 kbps
kilobits per second
Still, it's not correct, i'm d/ling 1MB files from Israel in about 5-6 seconds ...
Man i hope it's safe i dont really feeling like f***ing my windows up :\
Another thing, the MTU, i think it wont heart to change it to 1500 ... =/
Can u plz explain me how ? (first post ..)
Thx alot ! :p
[Edit]
With very much f34r i'v done all the requested changes and saved it to registery, and I rebooted. Unfortunally, it didnt effect my comp at all :/ d/l speed is pretty much the same and also the latency...
Dunno if it's important but i have an inside network, this comp is the "master" and connects directly to the internet, but throw a proggy named Wingate.
I really dont think it matters, but, who knows :/
When u wrote: 17680/23120/27200/36720/55760/93840 it means choose 1 of those right? Well, i'v chosen 55760 in all the places...
Any suggestions plz ???
P.S: I'v already d/l the Generic patch for WindowsXP from speedguide.net if it matters :rolleyes:
10q ;)
