Counterstrike Video problems . . .

I'm grounded so I need something to do so I thought I would get back into playing CS (havn't plaed in a bout a year). SO I dl' the new CS and the new HL patch and I can't seem to get it to work. What I mean by that is my computer always freezes when I connect to a server. I know it's my video card cause I had this problem before but I don't remember how to fix it. I have a GeForce 2 Ultra so what should I select as my video driver? (Open Gl or Direct3D?) Do i need to change any settings on my card in Windows? My desktop settings are 1280x960 if that matters. Please help cause I really wanna play again!! Thanks for your help.

You might need to d/l the ATI Patch Fix. I don't know if that would solve the problem but there were also all different kinds of problems with the new patch. Go to www.counter-strike.net and they have a guide to fixing all the different problems.

why would he need theATI fix, he's using a GeForce card ???
I's dugest lowering your desktop resolution to something like 1024x768 and setting the video (in game) to OpenGl and 800x600.
also try getting the newest drivers from www.nvidia.com
