View Full Version : Genome or Folding, what is more worth while?
Hi there,
I got into running genome a short time ago and am a member of your team.
Does anybody know what is more worth while for society, genome or faulding research? I am the sort of person that likes to contribute to tangible results that will benefit humanity.
With the immenent release of the version 3 client of Faulding, I am thinking about switching from Genome.
Any input would be most appreciated.

Hello Encnuk,
Welcome to SpeedGuide and thanks for being a part of the team!
It is my understanding that the team majority wanted us to complete 500,000 Genomes (Kinda a milestone of sorts...) and then switch to the new Folding client. This should be another month or so, (I am not really up on the scores) and will give Stanford the opportunity to have the prog out of Beta status...
IMO & understanding, Folding actually has the most potential to make a quicker impact in the search for cures, prevention, etc., of our worst feared diseases as it folds actual protein sequences in an effort to find why proteins in our bodies misfold and result in the formation of diseases.
Genome has a lot to do with designing genes and such.
Both are of great importance to the scientists...
I will definitely move this main box of mine to fold when we hit 500k Genomes, as my other old box does now...
Maybe some others will state their understanding to the projects as well...
Again, Thanks for being a part of our cyber family! Come around more often! :)

As Ken said both are worthwhile projects.
The G@H team is shooting for the 500K mark, however, no real decision had been made what to do after that. There are still some bugs in the new F@H and they are still rolling out beta versions.
By the way, a belated welcome and thanks for coming aboard.
Oh yeah IT'S LAKERS 3-PEAT TIME! YES!
Thanks for taking the time to respond to my questions. I will stick with Genome till the 500k mark is reached and then re-evaluate if Folding is the way to go (probably a yes, considering what I have read from your reply).
