I am upgrading a friends machine to Win98 from 95. This is a 200MMX on a Tyan Tomcat MB with 80MB RAM (now).

What happens is 98 loads just great till I put in the key code, then I get MSGSRV32 ILLEGAL OPERATION.

This happens every single time and is driving me nuts, I have fdiskd and formatted 5 times now and I am thinking a piece of hardware is causing this??

Help please!! Thanx in advance!!!

I would just take out the soundblaster card and try the install again.

I'm on my way out.....

If the above doesn't help, try taking out all plug in cards but the video. Once windows installs try installing each one individually, and find the culprit. It is either a bad piece of hardware, or a driver issue.
