Is it possible to remove media player 8?? Or swap versions like you could do with WinME sysrestore remover?? I'm running a little low on disk space

why, just navigate to the C:\Program Files\Windows Media Player directory, double click mplayer2.exe and use it (it's 6.4)

Removing Media player 8 isn't going to do jack for re-claiming disk space. Get another drive for like $60.00 or buy a burner and burn all your mp3's onto disk.

Thanks for the advise, but no thanks.
If it isn't possible, thats all I need to know.

Well, I'd say turn off XP's System Restore altogether if you haven't already. I know you're looking for a simple solution in how to free up disk space, but like it was said above, removing WMP8 will do nothing of consequence in that area. I also assume you've gone through the Add/Remove Programs menu and cleaned out all the junk in there and deleted any of those .chk files in the root C:\ directory.

Additionally, here're a few culprits I've known to always eat up disk space:

1. Newsreaders like Agent that keep a .dat file of all the headers in a group by default, with Agent going up to a 2 GB limit per group. I've had 4 gigs of them at once and by deleting them out freed up a ton of space.

2. Too many games installed. Now that games like to install the "optimum" amount of files, many games can take up anywhere between 800 MB to 2 GB a piece. If you don't play something, backup your saved games and dump it. There's no reason to have them all installed if you don't play them with some consistent frequency -- other than trying to look "with it" when taking screenshots. :)

3. Too many MP3s on the drive. I saw a post no too long ago about a guy whining that he lost all his MP3s due to a hard drive crash...all 14,000 of them! What the hell? No one...NO ONE listens to that many MP3s, period. I recorded all my CDs (about 200) to MP3 and I honestly listen to about fifteen or so of them on a regular basis. Clear out what you don't need, and stick with the music you actually listen to.

But really, the best suggestion is to buy a new drive. Yeah, you'll have to spend some money, but hard disks are dirt-cheap now. If you refrain from Burger King trips a few times and mow a lawn or not buy that Hawaiian print t-shirt at the Gap or even dump your girlfriend for a couple of weeks, you'll have the cash in no time. Of course, no one ever likes to hear "go spend money", but in my opinion it's much better than pulling your hair out trying to exorcise parts of the OS out to free up disk space.

Your 3 suggestions are absolutely briliant maybe for a teenager. However the answer I was looking for was " No, it is not possible to remove Media Player 8" Period. Money, fast food, teenage GAP wearing girlfriends, Hawiann shirts or anything else needed to be said. But hey, if you feel like typing, write a story.

It's unfortunate that people come here for help and act like a bunch of pricks when someone makes any effort. If you're not looking for "teenager" advice, perhaps you're advanced enough to have known the answer from the beginning.
