I recently added 256 megs of ram for a total of 576 megs. I turned off the page file, like every good computer geek with over 512 megs ram. I reboot, and hit control+alt+del to see task manager.

Heres the problem, it still shows me using a page file! It fluxuates and all. So i double checked my settings, but the pagefile is turned off. I then looked at norton system doctor. It shows no pagefile. Then I decided to do a search for the pagefile and delete it if it was still there. I looked for pagefile.sys with no results...hmmm. I decide to take the 1st ss below, and go into adobe photoshop 7.0, it tells me i have no page file as well. whats going on here?

I reboot again, same thing. Anyone experience similar problems? Anyone know a possible fix? Thanks

Do not disable your pagefile! Some apps such as Photoshop require it to run, just make a static pagefile i.e. make the min & max values the same size, 384MB is sufficient.:)

photoshop ran ok anyway, but I do realize that, and i will turn it back on for certian appz like slavanap, ps, and video editing.

I wanna turn off the pagefile because most of the time its uneeded and slow you way down. People have told me of up to 25% performance gains with the pagefile turned off. Thats the pretty large leep!

btw, my system specs are duron 750 (soon to be 1.4 :D ), 576 megs ram, 20 gig HD...for now, dvd drive, 40x12x48 liteon burner, 8 meg tnt2...its gotta go, 2 nics running ICS, and cable internet if any of that makes a difference

From what I have read, time and time again, is that in 99.9% of the cases, you should not turn off the pagefile. Set it to static like mnosteele52 suggests and you'll be fine. 25% speed increase not using pagefile? That's a pretty bold claim.

I did a little research on turning it off when I upgraded my RAM and then after reading all the problems that occur when you do, I came to the conclusion that what little gains you do get is not really worth it. In most cases a user will get better gains by just turning off the crap they don't really need and leaving well enough alone. To a certain extent that is. You can over-tweak your system too ya know.

On the other hand, if there's new news out there on this subject, please post it here. We're always looking for valid tweaks. ;)
