A computer I have running win98se keeps getting the message "prog has performed an illegal operation".
How the heck do I delete/reload this prog without reloading all of windows ?
Next time you get that error message:
Click the Details button and
Copy the text in the details window and
Immediately paste it into a Notepad file and
Save the text file.
Exit the IE error message, relaunch IE and paste full error message here in this thread.

In addition to what TonyT suggested, to post the exact details here...you can upgrade your Internet Explorer to a newer version....5.5sp2 is very stable for 98se.....6.0 has a few known issues in Win9X, but 99% of peeps have no problem...it may be a good last resort. If you have broadband or any other fast connection, running Windowsupdate will get you going on the download.
Also, if you have 5.5 or newer (I forget if 5.0 had this feature), you can run Internet Explorer Repair Utility. Several ways of doing that....in Control Panel, Add/Remove programs, act as if you were going to uninstall Internet Explorer...you'll see a radio button choice for "Repair"...this works if you still have your Windows Update Files directory in the C partition.
Another way is Start==>Run.....type in MSINFO32 "Tools" drop down menu...."Internet Explorer Repair Utility".
Do you have a new Anti-virus program, with the latest definitions? Recent full scan?
Empty your C:\Windows\Temporary Internet Files directory
Empty your C:\Windows\Cookies directory....except INDEX.DAT.
Run a recent anti-spyware cleaner, such as Ad-Aware.
